Outsider art has always been at the core of hip hop music. That quintessential need for the common man to express themselves by any means necessary. Whether beating on school lunch tables, or pounding out beats on an MPC, the core of rap has been personal expression. Pepper Boy is simultaneously both your typical local rapper and a whole lot more.
Hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas, Pepper Boy has spent years grinding in his own community, releasing tracks and mixtapes for all those who would listen. Thankfully, this year the world has declared that it is ready to hear what Pepper Boy has to say. The key is in his sincerity. No matter how big the audience, Pepper Boy manages to express himself with the intimacy and honesty of a true outsider artist. Even when spitting over big hipster beats, he manages to bring it home and lure the listener into a much smaller yet somehow exquisitely more identifiable world.
His world... the real world.
